After a private hearing in September at OGR with the jury members, Turin has been selected as one of the three finalists for the 2024 European Capital of Innovation award (iCapital), alongside Espoo (Finland) and West Midlands (UK). This recognition, granted by the European Commission, celebrates cities that provide innovative solutions to enhance the well-being of their citizens.
Turin is in the running for the title thanks to its commitment to creating an inclusive innovation ecosystem, capable of connecting citizens, academia, and both the private and public sectors. This acknowledgment aligns with our efforts through Torino City Lab and CTE Next – the Casa delle Tecnologie Emergenti di Torino – and Torino Social Impact: key initiatives that continuously promote, through multi-stakeholder partnerships, the co-development and co-experimentation of innovative solutions to pressing urban challenges. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life and promote advanced technological development in our city, ensuring that no one is left behind.
The winners will be announced on November 13, 2024, in Lisbon, with a prize of 1 million euros for the winning city. Previous winners include Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Paris. Regardless of the final outcome, Turin will join the iCapital Alumni Network, contributing to the creation of an ecosystem of cities that are leaders in innovation.
