The European Commission has approved the City Climate Contract (CCC) of Turin. This morning, during a ceremony held in Strasbourg, Mayor Stefano Lo Russo, accompanied by the Councillor for Ecological and Digital Transition Chiara Foglietta, received the EU Mission Label, the formal recognition of the contract’s approval.
The attainment of this goal, which the City has worked on together with the Polytechnic University of Turin and numerous other institutional partners, not only positions Turin as a model for other European cities but also certifies the presented projects as serious and relevant, as recognized by external experts from the European Commission. The approval aims to facilitate access to both public and private funding for the goal of climate neutrality, encouraging investment in the city.
There are six initial signatories of the Climate City Contract (City of Turin, Metropolitan City, Piedmont Region, Polytechnic University of Turin, University of Turin, and the Chamber of Commerce), 16 main partners (GTT, Iren, SMAT, InfraTo, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, Fondazione CRT, CSI Piemonte, 5T, ARPA Piemonte, ATC, Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit, Reale Group, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Sagat, Italgas), and 60 supporters.
The Climate City Contract puts in writing the concrete and programmatic commitment of the various stakeholders, starting with the City, to implement the climate transition. It identifies both the specific actions to be taken to achieve emission reduction goals and the financial budget required for each action, which will be gradually recovered. This represents a significant moment for the City, strengthening and enhancing the activities already carried out and planned, while also boosting synergies with all the city’s actors, from citizens to industry, from the financial sector to academic institutions.
