On March 24, 2025, the Smart Mobility Cluster, a collaborative network of Italian Emerging Technology Houses (CTEs) dedicated to the shared development of smart mobility solutions, was officially launched. Leading the initiative is the Turin-based House of Emerging Technologies – CTE Next in collaboration with 5T, with the ambition to create a national ecosystem focused on CCAM (Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility) technologies with a strong emphasis on the evolution of these technologies as a natural continuation of traditional ITS services.

The Cluster is designed to foster the exchange of locally developed experiences, technologies and expertise, as in the case of the Smart Road infrastructure and at the Turin Mobility Centre, among the most advanced in Europe.
The main objectives of this network concern, on the one hand, the promotion and replicability of these solutions in other urban contexts, and on the other hand, activating joint projects among the member CTEs, involving startups, SMEs and public stakeholders with a view to experimentation, innovation and technology transfer.
To date, the Italian CTEs actively participating in the Cluster are: CTE Next Torino (coordinating, with technical support from partner 5T srl), CTE COBO Bologna, CTE Campobasso, CTE Cagliari, CTE Bari , and CTE Pesaro. It will be possible to welcome other interested CTEs in the coming months.

Cluster activities will be developed through four main phases. After the official launch and an introductory webinar during which projects, technologies, and use cases already underway in Turin were presented, there will be a time for in-depth technical and documentary exchange among the participating CTEs. Then, one or more areas of strategic cooperation will be selected to facilitate the mutual transfer of administrative, scientific and technological knowledge, with the possible development of collaborative projects. The Cluster also envisages the mapping of infrastructures, assets and competencies in the Mobility 5.0 sector of the Italian CTEs involved, in order to define joint actions of animation and attraction of talents, startups and enterprises in the near future.
The Smart Mobility Cluster is an initiative that aims to create a collaborative model to address the challenges of urban mobility in an integrated way: from autonomous and connected driving to the safety of vulnerable people, from the interoperability of systems to the sustainability of services, and the enhancement of digital infrastructure in territories. A concrete opportunity to build together the mobility of the future, starting from solid Italian experiences.
This activity dialogues synergistically with the new project Living Lab ToMove, a spin-off of CTE Next and led by the City of Turin, funded by the Department for Digital Transformation as part of the National Plan Complementary to PNRR. ToMove aims to transform the city into a permanent urban laboratory for testing advanced mobility solutions, integrating infrastructure, data and technological innovation.

A first important public moment of confrontation will be the event organized by CTE Next on April 15, 2025 on the occasion of the Italian Made in Italy Day, dedicated to the theme Mobility 5.0.

The initiative, which is part of the calendar of Turin European Capital of Innovation, will be an opportunity to tell about ongoing projects and actively involve businesses, institutions and citizens.
