Digital Twin for Smart Mobility

The Digital Twin is a digital replica of smart and sustainable urban mobility, consisting of a system that provides services to connected vehicles (autonomous and non-autonomous), and a decision support system capable of enabling strategic mobility analysis. The Digital Twin consists of:

A scalable data collection system

that enables the integration of different data sources and sensors related to urban mobility, integrating the existing digital infrastructure in the City of Turin.

A Decision Support System (DSS)

capable of enabling ‘what if’ analysis for planning evolutionary interventions aimed both at physical infrastructure and mobility governance measures.

A development platform

that enables the simple and secure experimentation of new services related to smart mobility.

The Digital Twin allows working in real time, providing connected vehicles with services aimed at improving mobility efficiency and safety, particularly for vulnerable groups such as pedestrians and cyclists. Thanks to advanced sensor technology, the Digital Twin can operate while also considering non-connected vehicles.

Historical data, on the other hand, will be used to support decisions related to the configuration of the road network and the implementation of traffic management and regulation, to support urban planning and promote new scenarios of sustainable and smart mobility.

In the 2024-2026 period, the Digital Twin will be tested and used as a platform for the experimentation of new services, also enabling secure access to data, in full compliance with privacy regulations and the use of artificial intelligence.
