Today in Paris, the City of Turin received a prestigious award at the Startup Ecosystem Stars Awards (SES) in the Ecosystems category for its outstanding contribution to the development of the innovation ecosystem.
The Startup Ecosystem Stars Awards, organized by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Mind the Bridge in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the European Commission, and supported by Microsoft, celebrate the best governmental initiatives supporting innovation in various regions.
Among the recognized practices are training programs, support for local industry through open innovation, financial incentives for innovation ecosystems, and the development of entrepreneurial talent. This award, which follows Turin’s nomination as the European Capital of Innovation and European Capital of Smart Tourism, confirms the city’s commitment to building a startup-friendly ecosystem.
This year, another important recognition was given to Achine El-Mahdi Oualid, awarded as the 2024 Startup Ecosystem Star for his visionary leadership as the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises of Algeria. His work in promoting innovation and entrepreneurial growth in Algeria and across Africa has been recognized as a model to follow.
Our Councillor for Innovation, Chiara Foglietta, emphasized that Turin continues to stand out – also thanks to initiatives like CTE NEXT and Torino City Lab – as a living laboratory where creativity and ideas come together to shape the future, driven by a governance model characterized by bottom-up and horizontal approaches that encourage the active involvement of all stakeholders.
In conclusion, the award at the Startup Ecosystem Stars Awards represents not only an achievement for the City of Turin but also recognition of its entire innovation ecosystem. This success reflects the collective commitment of all involved actors, from institutions to businesses and startups, in creating a fertile environment for entrepreneurial growth and development. Turin continues to shine on the international stage, consolidating its position as a dynamic hub for innovation.
