Torino, as European Capital of Innovation 2024-2025, is launching. Cities Innovate, an innovative online dialogue format with the aim of addressing the crucial issues in urban innovation, fostering the exchange of best practices and presenting replicable models of innovation that can be adopted by other cities.

During each meeting, placed-based solutions will be explored, highlighting the impact these have on the urban context, with a focus on how to overcome common challenges and difficulties. The dialogue will also be an opportunity to identify effective strategies for addressing and resolving these obstacles, while at the same time fostering collaborative networks among Cities to stimulate innovation and continous improvement. 

Cities Innovate is not just a webinar series, but aspires to become a real movement, connecting visionary cities and building the foundation for a smarter, greener and more inclusive urban future.

Cities Innovate: the format and program

Each meeting will focus on a specific innovation theme, matching Turin with other European Cities of Reference. Discussions will be moderated by expert networks to ensure a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences. The key players in this dialogue will be expert figures in urban innovation, innovation leaders and policy makers, who will explore how cities are shaping the future.

The webinar is in English, will last up to 60 minutes, and will take place online on the Remo platform. The first episode is scheduled for April 28, 2025, 4-5 pm.

Episode 1 – April 28, 2025: Cities as startup ecosystems for social good: Turin meets Lisbon
An exploration of how cities can nurture innovation ecosystems to address social challenges.

Episode 2 – May 26, 2025: Technologies for Cities – Urban Air Mobility: Turin meets Cluj-Napoca and Riga
The integration of air mobility technologies into urban infrastructure and their impact on sustainability and accessibility.

Episode 3 – June 2025 : Empowering Communities Through Innovation: Turin meets Birmingham.
An in-depth look at social innovation and urban entrepreneurship in Turin and Birmingham.

Episode 4 – July 2025: Urban Technologies – AI and Ethics.
A reflection on the use of artificial intelligence in urban planning and the ethical implications.

Episode 5 – July 2025: Technologies for Cities – CCAM (Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility): Turin meets Espoo and Hamburg
A meeting on CCAM technologies and their impact on urban mobility.

Episode 6 – September 2025: Future cities are zero-emission cities
The journey of cities toward climate neutrality and urban resilience.

 

The program is open and intends to be enriched with additional meetings, events and collaborations. The series is set to grow through the involvement of new cities, experts and international networks.
